Buy Safe America Coalition Statement on Amazon Endorsing the INFORM Consumers Act

The Buy Safe America Coalition, a diverse group of retailers, consumer groups, wholesaler-distributors, and manufacturers that support efforts to protect consumers and communities from the sale of counterfeit and stolen goods, today released the following statement on reports that Amazon has endorsed the House version of the INFORM Consumers Act.

“Retailers and our industry partners are glad that Amazon has finally acknowledged the billions in counterfeit and stolen goods sold on marketplace platforms, and the harm it has caused consumers and legitimate businesses,” said Michael Hanson, Buy Safe America coalition spokesperson. “The Buy Safe America coalition will work with members of both parties to pass this important legislation by the end of the year, but Congress should not allow Amazon to water down transparency provisions within the bill. Consumers deserve to know who they are buying from, and it’s time to shine a light on the criminals and con artists peddling illicit goods on Amazon’s marketplace.”
